Ag is the Periodic Table symbol for Silver. Fine silver, as it is called in its pure form, melts at 960.5˚C. Sterling silver is 92.5% pure and is alloyed with 7.5% Copper. Sterling silver melts at 893˚C. Silver is easily 200% cheaper than Gold. It is easily available and doesn’t even require a precious metals license to purchase in bullion. However this makes it less desirable than the more expensive white gold alloys. Fine silver is rarely used where sterling is the internationally accepted alloy. It is a very easy metal to work with, soft, clean and normally one is more relaxed due to its cost. Coin silver contains more copper, 10 - 20% more. It melts at a temperature slightly lower than sterling silver and is likely to tarnish
