If you are an avid hip hop music lover, you would have most likely heard your favourite rapper talk about "cuban link chains"(Left). These are very popular amongst rap stars around the world because of their undeniable presence when they are worn.
If you are looking for something that is similar to the cuban link chain but not as "flashy", you should look no further than the "curb link chain" (Right). This style of chain is made in a similar way as the cuban link except with less metal..
There are a few key differences between the 2 styles of chains that I will be discussing in this article so if you are interested in knowing more, please continue reading.
Cuban link chains that have the same dimensions as their curb link counterparts will weigh more. This is because more metal is used to make cuban link chains. You will notice that cuban links are substantially thicker than curb links, adding to the weight difference.
Curb link chains are machine made while cuban link chains are hand-made. As with anything hand made, there will most probably be slight imperfections that you will find on the individual links of the cuban link chain, including solder seams. Each link of a curb link chain should, in essence, be perfect because they are each mass machine made.
The gaps between each link in a curb link chain are bigger than the gaps of a cuban link chain. For a visual representation you can look at the images at the top of the article. The image on the left is the cuban link and the image on the right is the curb link.
Cuban link chains are attached to a box clasp at the ends of each side (below top), while curb link chains are attached to a French/lobster clasp (below bottom)

Deciding on which chain to buy is based on personal preference as well as budget. Take your time to decide which one best suits you, regardless of price. If you feel confident while wearing your jewellery then you are wearing the right thing. Confidence is key. Don't just opt for the cuban link chain because it most probably costs more, rather buy something that makes you feel good.
Jewellery is a good way to express yourself and you should use that to your advantage by experimenting with the different variations of jewellery that exist. Using the curb link and cuban link chain in your jewellery collection is a good start.
