Platinum - Pt

ree

The metal forms part of a group of six metals on the Periodic Table called the Platinum Group. Platinum is very dense and extremely resistant to corrosion. Platinum melts at 1773˚C and as such normally requires a flame in excess of normal jewellery melting torches. Platinum is never used in an alloy of less than 99% purity. Platinum is one of the most expensive metals used in the commercial jewellery trade. Its cost only adds to its desirability. Also its neutral colouring has become progressively more fashionable during the 20th century. The 6 metals that form part of the platinum group are: Platinum Pt 1773°C (Melting point) Palladium Pd 1555°C (Melting point) Rhodium Rh 1966°C (Melting point) Ruthenium Ru 2500°C (Melting point) Iridium Ir 2355°C (Melting point) Osmium Os 3066°C (Melting point)
